Apps and Free Portable Software (Google Apps Training)

About the Course

This course is aimed at learners with an interest in using freely available online apps in order to improve their digital literacy and productivity.

Focus:

  • Using on-line storage to store/manage files (never lose your personal/work stuff again!)
  • Using free on-line apps to create calendars, documents, spreadsheets and presentations

What will be learnt?

Learners will be able to:

  • Understand and use free online applications that need no installation
  • Use portable media and free cloud storage to save files
  • Use search engines and free online apps to find, edit and present information
  • Understand differences between freeware, shareware and portable software
  • Make an informed judgement about reliability/safety in using free software

Assessment: Portfolio of documents created

Duration: 10 Weeks2 hours per week

Start date and time: Friday April 15th 2016 @ 1:00pm to 3:00pm

Costs

Full Fee £150.00 paid by:

  • Individuals that work 16 hours per week or more.
  • Individuals repeating the course.

Concessionary Fee £40 paid by:

  • Individuals working less than 16 hours per week (including self-employed).
  • ALL retired individuals
  • Anyone who is unwaged or unemployed

Fee Waiver – Free!

  • You must be new to higher education (HE), do not have qualifications higher than a HNC/HND or other undergraduate credit-bearing HE award (unless you are upgrading your qualification) and meet one of the conditions below:
  • Your family is in receipt of Universal Credit or Income Support or income based Jobseekers Allowance or Housing Benefit or Pension Credit or Working Tax Credits.
  • You are in receipt of Employment and Support Allowance or Personal Independent Payment or Severe Disablement Allowance or Disability Living Allowance or Attendance Allowance or Incapacity Benefit or Carer’s Allowance.
  • You are a registered job seeker, and have been so for a continuous period of no less than six weeks prior to the date of application for fee waiver.
  • Your sole family income is through Department for Work and Pensions benefits.

 

You must provide full documentary evidence of your entitlement on application, for example a letter from Jobcentre Plus confirming your name, address and benefit entitlement.
